Volunteer Job Bank Policies Who Can Do Hiring
The Chapter Bylaws specify that the Chapter President identifies candidates
for Committee Manager positions. The council must vote on and approve each Committee
Manager.
Further the Chapter Bylaws indicate that all Committee Managers are the hiring
managers for their committees.
All ad hoc positions are managed either by a member of the Chapter council
or by someone the council has delegated the responsibility to.
When Does a Job Begin or End
All jobs within the Chapter are renewable at the beginning of each Chapter
year (June to June). In general, the Boston Chapter endorses a policy of turnover
in jobs. The intent of this policy is to allow all volunteers the opportunity
to learn and grow with new experiences. In addition, this policy is intended
to limit the concerns that a job may be owned by one person.
Right to a Job
With the exception of elected positions, as set forth in the Chapter Bylaws,
no member is automatically entitled to any position within the Chapter. The
Council, through its selection of Committee Managers, controls who occupies
what position and when.
Non-members may participate in STC-Boston Chapter activities including participating
as committee members. Non-members may not hold any position higher than committee
member.
All committee manager positions, including elected positions, are reserved
for STC-Boston Chapter members.
Procedures

limited to the following:
- Must be consistent with the STC-Boston Chapter's Strategic Plan and other
planning documents, goals, and objectives.
- Positions located in the geographical area that the Boston Chapter STC
serves (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire).
- Some positions require attendance at regularly scheduled meetings; others
do not.
- Volunteer jobs will be posted on the Boston Chapter Web site (http://www.stcboston.org)
typically within one week of submission.
- Volunteer job postings include links to the e-mail address provided in the
job submission.
- Volunteer jobs can be submitted electronically via the job submission form
available from the Web site, or by mail to the Volunteer Coordinator.
- The volunteer job listing includes the following information: job title,
description/responsibilities, skills/experience, equipment, time commitment,
contact information (name, e-mail address, phone numbers), and comments.
- Volunteer job seekers can access the volunteer job list from the chapter
web site. This is the preferred method of access. Or, they can request job
listings by mail. To receive listings by mail once a week for a month, job
seekers can send the Volunteer Coordinator their mailing address. The service
is free to STC members. The non-member fee for this service is $10.00 for
the first month and $5.00 for each subsequent month (paid by check to the
Boston Chapter STC and mailed with the request). If there are no new postings
during a particular one-week period, the Volunteer Coordinator will not mail
anything to the job seeker.
